April 2009 Cracks in the Foundation At a national conference for Professional Business Leaders, the CEO of fortune five hundred company is seated with her back to the audience. She arises from her seat and walks toward the podium with vivid panty lines in full view through the pale pink Chanel suit. The mixed audience begins whispering. The executive turns around to face the podium and is greeted by gasps from the audience. Unsure of the reason for the startling reception, she reluctantly begins her speech and all eyes are fixed on her, not her face but her bustline which appears to have not two but four breasts. The impact of poorly fitted undergarments can be widespread as seen in the illustration above. It changed the sophisticated look of the clothing, the reception of the audience as well as the confidence level of the executive. Undergarments are the foundation for every wardrobe. Just like the foundation of a house, underwear determines the posture of the structure or body and the level to which it is perceived aesthetically pleasing. Finding underwear that fit properly is a very complicated and time-consuming job for many people because of the different price points, brands with multiple features and different size charts for each brand. As professional image consultants, we should minimize the process by choosing the right foundations for clients. Proper size, style and fit of underwear and especially shape-wear make or break the results achieved with your clients. We must expand our vision from clothing and outerwear and begin the initial consultation focusing on underwear. Help erase the cracks in clothing foundation. I have taken the guesswork out of the process with my new book, Your Purse Size Fashion Guide. This convenient little red book is jam-packed with the how-to's of proper underwear and pantyhose fit along with clothing tips for the different body-types.
